David Walliams at Selly Oak

PATIENTS, their families and members of staff at Selly Oak Hospital were delighted to meet Little Britain star David Walliams when paid a visit with The British Forces Foundation.

The comedian and actor spent time chatting to everyone on the wards and had his photograph taken with them

His visit was hugely appreciated by soldiers, sailors, airmen and women – who have had the misfortune to be at Selly Oak Hospital due to wounding – and also the military and civilian staff.

Officer Commanding, Major Ian Cheesman, said: "I know the motivation to visit the military patients was not for recognition or reward, however you should be aware that the visit was a huge success and very well received by all.

"It is not easy to meet personnel who have been seriously injured and whose lives have been dramatically changed, but your comfortable banter and obvious empathy proved to be a huge boost to both patients and their families. The staff also appreciated the opportunity to meet you and have photo’s taken with you.

"Once again, thank-you for coming and demonstrating support for the troops. Visits like this are truly valued and a huge comfort for the wounded to know there is such sincere public support out there."

It was an excellent visit, very positive and very well received by patients families and staff alike. And judging by the buzz on the ward after wards, David was by far the most impressive guest Selly Oak has had to meet the patients.
